Abundance

豐

Upper

Thunder · 震

the arousing, movement

Lower

Fire · 離

the clinging, clarity

Contemporary judgment

Abundance. A moment of fullness at its peak. Enjoy this richness without clinging to it; what has reached its apex is already beginning its natural descent. Do not lament the inevitable turning, and do not pretend you can freeze the moment. Use the height well while it lasts.

Image

Thunder and lightning together. The superior person decides lawsuits and carries out punishments.

Counsel

Receive the abundance gratefully and deploy it wisely. Strengthen what you have been postponing. Store some of the harvest. Do not squander the light in excessive celebration; the same light will be needed later in more modest form. Act with magnanimity while you can.

The six lines

Numbered from the bottom upward; displayed here from first to sixth.

  1. Line 1

A nine at the beginning means: When one meets one's destined lord, one may be together ten days, and it is no mistake. To go there finds recognition.

  2. Line 2

A six in the second place means: The curtain is of such abundance that at midday one sees the polestars. Through going there one gains mistrust and hatred. If one awakens him through truth, good fortune comes.

  3. Line 3

A nine in the third place means: The undergrowth is of such abundance that at midday one sees the small stars. He breaks his right arm. No blame.

  4. Line 4

A nine in the fourth place means: The curtain is of such abundance that at midday one sees the polestars. He meets his equal lord. Good fortune!

  5. Line 5

A six in the fifth place means: Lines come; blessing and fame draw near. Good fortune!

  6. Line 6

A six at the top means: His house is in abundance. He covers up his clan. He peeps through the gate and notices no one anymore. For three years he sees nothing. Misfortune!
